The Oakland Press Becky's Wish Glove & Mitten Drive The Oakland Press will be collecting new adult and child size gloves and mittens now through December 15th for those in need this season.  All items will be donated to HAVEN, Care House and Lighthouse of Oakland County.  Becky's Wish - Warm Gloves and Warm Hearts is in honor of Rebecca Wright, wife of Scott Wright, President and COO of The Oakland Press' parent company, Journal Register Company.  Becky passed away unexpectedly a last year.  In the final years of her life, she would purchase and pass out many pairs of gloves and mittens to those less fortunate. Visit the contest page found under Entertainment in the nav bar at www.TheOaklandPress.com for drop off locations.

News you may have missed

  • Independence Fire Department and Clarkston Lions Club will be hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive. Friday, December 18, 2009, 9am to 8pm Independence Fire Department 6500 Citation Clarkston, MI 48346 There is an on-going crisis of blood shortage in this region of Michigan, and the need for donors is ever increasing. While the Red Cross regularly receives blood from sister Red Cross regions, their ability to send blood is very much in jeopardy. Based on current planned operations, planned shipment to hospitals, and the ability to import from other regions, inventory could be depleted by years end. Your effort in donating during this period could help to curtail this shortfall. To donate, please call the fire department to make your 45 minute appointment for December 18, 2009. You may also drop in any time during this drive, but an appointment is preferred to avoid waiting an excessive amount of time. You may either register on-line at www.givelife.org and enter IFDLIONS in the Step 1 box, or call 248-625-1924 or 248-625-5468. As always, Southeast Michigan is in need of blood, especially during the holidays. During these tough economic times, this is one of the few ways you can help without costing you anything more than a little bit of your time. If you have specific concerns or would like more information, please call 1-800- GIVELIFE (1-800-448-5433).
